PERSONALITY: Helen is bold and straightforward, yet brave and has a no-nonsense approach to life, yet she remains proudly true to her formal Victorian English sensibilities. She is a natural leader dedicated to the studies of extraterestrial lifeforms, and devotes her life to researching and protecting them. She is naturally beautiful and typically Victorian, she is also enigmatic who stays oddly calm even in the most hectic of situations. She has a tough interior, and tries not to let her emotions affect her work or those around her. She is strictly professional, and is so engrossed by her work, that she rarely spends time out of her research. Highly determined to find answers, she never rests until she does. Even her collegues try to find the energy to keep her grounded.
Beckett’s past is long and colorful… as one would expect from a life lasting 158 years. The secret to her seemingly eternal youth is but one of many mysteries hidden within the walls of the her father's sanctem. Being the daughter of the most brilliant and controversial medical researcher of his day, she was exposed early in her life to the secrets that he held. He further taught her the wonders of his world, knowing these revelations would change her forever. Although dismissed as monstrous figments of our imaginations and the stuff of our childhood nightmares, she recognizes that the world is full of nature’s mistakes and triumphs. And she has the spectacular proof that they are indeed real, and devotes her life to protecting them.
Helen is a woman who's experienced a century and a half of isolation, strangeness, and relentless compassion. She seems to have trouble displaying emotions, hence she finds it difficult to keep a close relationship with those around her. All through her life she has been scared to get close to anyone, only to watch them die and forces her to continue living. If any, she finds it somewhat difficult to cope, but no-one ever realises it because she doesn't particularly like talking about her feelings. She does act rather cold around people, because of living a century of being virtually alone. But other than that, she is generally friendly, knowledgable, a little too serious, reserved, somewhat quiet and contemplative.

HISTORY: Doctor Helen Beckett is a 158-year old teratologist and medical scientist, who was born in England during the Victorian Era. She followed in her father's footsteps and became one of the first female doctors and scientists at the Royal College of Surgeans in London. Her father, Gregory Stoneward spent years teaching her about his private research of studying and helping creatures they have come to known as extra-terestrial. She became a proficient medical and scientific researcher, in which her father eventually introduced her to other scientists and paranormal researches similar to her field. One one of her expeditions, she encountered a dying alien who showed almost vampiric-like abilities. Being the scientist she was, she had the desire to experiment with it. She was the first to inject herself with the sample of the substance, which gave her a gift of longetivity and resistance to disease, and had not aged since.
You could say Helen had quite the history, considering she was involved in a few historical events. Most noticably, she was in the same room as Hitler the day the Nazi's surrendered. She fought in World War Two more in the sidelines, since she was confined to the make-shift medical center most of the time. Not to mention making sure her work with extra-terrestrials did not stop for anything, because it was extremely important to her. Other than that, she spent her long years travelling around the world, mainly by herself or sometimes with a lover she had at the time.
Later on, Helen pursues a relationship with fellow a man named Jonathan Hicks, in which they become engaged. But once he knew the truth about her, his desire for her ceased and he left her. During their relationship, she concieved a child named Annabeth, but who's embryo was kept frozen for over a century, until a time when Helen because extremely lonely well after her split from Jonathan. Life with her daughter was bliss. Never in her life did she connect with anyone, except her. Everything she did, was for her daughter, yet it always dawned her the day her daughter would leave her. Of course, Helen had already discovered that she did not posses the gift (or curse) of longevity like her mother. She was heartbroken. During 1967 on an expedition in the canadian mountains, her daughter was killed in actions when they competed against mercenaries aiming to retrieve an alien weapon frozen on earth for centuries. Helen was powerless, and so fled in both fear and despair. She stopped pursuing such things for nearly a decade after that, because she was in such bitter despair and devestation over her daughter's death.
At one time during her life, she tried to find a way to remove her longevity, but finding what she needed would cause all humanity to collapse. What she needed, was a viral concoction which had connections to special serum hidden within the temples of Peru. Realising if she did so, the virus could become an epidemic. So, she leaves the solution behind, much to her dissapointment. But everything changed when she discovered Torchwood. Actually, it was in 1992 did she first come across the term. Using the resources she had, she made sure she did her research, and discovered that they both shared the same purpose. To chase after alien artefacts, study alien lifeforms, and contain the dangerous ones. Of course, she needed to make sure if it was a decision she was sure of. But she did not have to do much. Turns out Torchwood was keeping tabs on her involvement. They knew about her work, but thankfully, they didn't know her 'gift'.
It was in late 2009 when she enountered Jack Harkness, and knowing her life's work from the inside-out, recruited her to the team. Ever since, she has taken the place of Medical Scientist straight after the death of their own.

POST RP EXAMPLE:"Potter! My patience is waring thin..." Severus Snape paced the room of his empty classroom, with his cloak billowing behind him. He watched the boy intently, with beady black eyes awaiting for the next screw-up from the Gryffindor. Harry Potter was serving detention, who was instructed by his teacher to make another batch of Skin-Repairing Potions, after his used his private stocks on Draco Malfoy. The little brat must have snuck in his storeroom without his permission, and now here he was, re-creating them. Of course Potter had never been shown how it was made, hence why Severus took great pleasure in 'correcting' him. Well, despite his quickly-dulling patience.
Harry mumbled a few words, and Severus quickly jumped to it, "What was that, Potter? Don't waste my time, " He pointed to a bowl, which looked like grey-colored herbs, "Greymurt. Now, " His tone was soft, was firm. Anyone who new Snape well enough, to take note of his tone of voice, not of just his words. It was somewhat, a trademark of his. Besides the dark glare he gave Potter constantly during his time in detention, which was hardly his first.
As he watched Potter carefully as tended toward his potion, Severus turned his back, which he would surely regret, to tend to his own potions he was brewing at the same time. Carefully, a slowly simmering purple and blue-colored bubbling potions was almost ready in the cauldron. He took a small vial, and a small scoop, as he filled the vial with the contents. As he popped a small cork on the top of the vial, there was a loud bang, and Severus quickly turned on his heel with a furious look on his face.
"POTTER! I said stir the potion anti-clockwise after you have added the Greymurt!" There was a thick black smoke, which quickly filled the empty classroom, and the professor started coughing along with Harry. "You stupid boy..." He withdrew his wand to try and dissipate the smoke, but instead, there was a blinding light and he was no longer at Hogwarts.
The light sent him to shut his eyes, and still clutching his wand, he could feel the atmosphere in the room change. If he was still in the room. Then, he hit solid ground, and took a few steps back to gain his footing. He blinked several times, as he flipped around in several directions. Dazed and confused, he gritted his teeth. That Potter brat did this. He was sure of it. He didn't think he even had the mental capacity to do it. But the Gryffindor succeeded. Severus Snape was no longer at Hogwarts. Hell, the school could not even be seen.
"What in Merlin's name..." He did stay slightly calm, despite his eagerness to get back and strangle the boy. The most prominant thing he noticed was the stench. Manure. Hay. Oats. And...horses? He turned around again and finally noticed that he was now standing in a stable. A horse was standing a few paces down, and seemed to stare at the teacher, unmoving. Severus frowned, and was tempted to hex the beast, but decided that was the least of his worried. He only took a few steps forward, where he felt something squishy underneath his show. With a look of disgust, he looked down to find he had stepped in a pile of horse manure, and grinded his teeth together in frustration.
"Just bloody great..." He mumbled a few words, and the manure was wiped clean off his shoes. He began walking out of the stables, to see if there was anyone else present. The first thing he needed to know, was where the hell he was. His anger was slowly building.
